Join us July 28th for a special Sunday night performance by Julian Velard! Julian's musical stylings and comedic timing have made him a fixture in both the comedy and music scenes in his native America, and have created cult followings overseas in the UK and the Netherlands. His music initially took hold a decade ago, where praise from The Guardian, Time Out London, and The Sunday Times led to a major label record deal.
He's toured internationally as an opening act for artists such as Jamie Cullum, Paul Carrack, and Goldfrapp, and he as shared the stage with a host of comedians including Will Ferrell, Reggie Watts, Paul Scheer, and Wyatt Cenac. His ability to transition seamlessly between both worlds has led to regular appearances on The Howard Stern Show and NPR's Ask Me Another. In 2017, he was an artist in residence at the prestigious Joe's Pub at The Public Theater in NYC.
Velard has written music and lyrics for Pop acts, commercials and the Internet, including songs for UK sensation Olly Murs, Wix.com, New York Knicks, Buzzfeed, Audible and The New Republic. His work has been featured on Mashable, The AV Club, and Nerdist. Velard's latest album, Fancy Words for Failure, was profiled in The Wall Street Journal.
Opening the show is Iggy T & The Crazymakers! The core of Iggy T and the Crazymakers is Sarah Todd and David Franz, a newly-formed cross-genre duo out of Ojai, CA, who pull from strong roots in soul, blues, and rock. Their songs excavate the self and the soul, and their particular combination of soul, rock, and blues makes you feel like a plant that’s just been watered…with whisky: sated and saucy, all on a sultry night.
Influenced by the likes of The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Adele, Al Green, Etta James, and Stevie Wonder, they blend traditional soul elements with a modern, beat-driven groove. The result is Eden-fresh; the feeling is like standing over a garden sprinkler in a skirt on a hot Tuesday.
Join us at 7:00pm for a one-night-only performance by Julian. There is a suggested donation of $20 at the door.
