Petty Chavez with Bernie Larsen

  • Ojai Underground Exchange 1016 W Ojai Ave Ojai, CA 93023 (map)

Saturday, December 1st rings in the new month with a fantastic duo from LA, Petty/Chavez! Petty Chavez is an acoustic singer-songwriter duo who create a meaningful, memorable and intimate musical experience for audiences in Southern California and beyond. Simon Petty, frontman of the LA-based British band Minibar, and Celia Chavez, current backing singer for Enrique Iglesias, join forces to promote songs from Petty’s recent albums “The Sad Carousel” and “Recovery Time” and Chavez’ new EP, “Dare To Love”. Their smoky vocal blend and shared appreciation for star-crossed love songs have led to a collaboration reminiscent of Rita Coolidge and Kris Kristofferson. And a bit more about our duo...

Celia Chavez has quietly apprenticed twenty feet from the stardom of artists such as P!nk, Seal, Brandon Flowers, Melody Gardot and Julia Fordham as a backup singer. Most recently, Enrique Iglesias thrust her into the international spotlight as his featured romantic duet partner on tour. With "Dare To Love," her new collection of self-penned songs conceived on planes, hotels, and tour buses, Celia returns to the organic, wistful lyricism that has influenced her music since youth and showcases her unique clarity of vocal delivery.

Simon Petty: Having made an album with legendary producer T Bone Burnett upon his arrival in the States as frontman with the band Minibar, this British singer-songwriter went on to tour North America extensively, eventually joining Pete Yorn’s band for several years. His time on the road gave him space to hone the unique brand of world-weary optimism and musical eclecticism that comes to light in his songs. With a distinctive voice somewhere between Nick Drake and Peter Gabriel, Petty’s songs take listeners on an evocative, emotional journey.

Opening the show is the one and only Bernie Larsen, performing his original soul, reggae, and blues inspired music that only he can provide. Bernie starts the show at 7:30, and there is a $20 suggested donation at the door.
