We are thrilled to host Michael Rider at the Underground Exchange on Friday October 5th! Rider was born in Detroit and grew up in Chicago. He first performed with a band in 1965 at the age of 12, doing rock and R&B songs, including Muddy Waters tunes. Seeing Paul Butterfield play live got him hooked on learning to play harp. Later, he worked on his chops while driving a NYC cab with one hand and riffing a Marine Band with the other. Went to Juilliard to study Shakespeare and slide guitar. Came to California to get acting work. Moved to the mountains to keep the music alive. Fled Hollywood. Featured Artist at the Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines several times. Lots of roadhouses, saloons, and small clubs in Riverside County. Infamous as a goon in the cult-classic Roadhouse, and as a trivial pursuit question of StarTrek Next Generation. Now writing songs and blowing harp while celebrating the roots of jump, jazz, shuffle and western swing blues. Happy to be in Ojai playing with some very fun and funky people. Who also happen to kill it. Join us for this great night of music at 7:30. There is a suggested donation of $20 at the door.
